Jean Watson | Cornerstone’s Living Room Concert Series

(Music playing). (Applauding). Thank you and
good evening. Thank you for inviting
me into your living room. This is so much fun. I am just thrilled
that you are here. I am thrilled that I got
to be here and I want to share some songs and
some stories tonight. Some of this music you’ve
heard before and some of it will probably
be new to you. But all of it just keeps
an attitude of worship. So as you are
listening to the music, I just pray that we will
all open our hearts and just receive from
the Lord tonight. Amen. Amen. Let’s worship. Oh. Oh. All creatures of
our God and King, lift up your voice
and with us sing. O praise Him. Alleluia! Thou burning sun
with golden beam, thou silver moon
with softer gleam! O praise Him,
O praise Him! Alleluia! Alleluia! Allelu-u-ia! Oh. Oh. Oh. Thou rushing wind
that art so strong, ye clouds that sail
in heav’n along, O praise Him! Alleluia! Thou rising morn,
in praise rejoice, ye lights of evening,
find a voice! O praise Him,
O praise Him! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! (Violin solo). Let all things
their Creator bless, and worship Him in
humbleness, O praise Him! Alleluia! Praise, praise the
Father, praise the Son, and praise the
Spirit, Three in One! O praise Him,
O praise Him! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! Oh. Oh. Oh. (Applauding). Thank you. That’s one of my
favorite hymns. Love the words and you’ve
got to wonder where those words came from. Were they out of someone’s
personal time of devotion, obviously a
time of worship. And that’s how my songs
tend to get written. I’m going to tell
you right now, I don’t claim to be
a natural songwriter. I don’t sit down at a
desk every day and say, I am now going
to write a song. Here I go. Ready, set, go. One, two, three. It just doesn’t
happen that way. Or the songs that I’ve
written that way aren’t very good. You don’t want
to hear them. The best songs that I’ve
ever written have come out of times of inspiration
and worship and I just finished a new recording
project called Steady My Gaze. This is the title track
and it came from one of those personal times
between me and the Lord and a piano. So Steady My Gaze. Okay that’s not
me or a piano. (Music). I don’t belong to
myself anymore. I’m happy to be Yours. My joy is finding my
place in Your heart. I just want to
give You more. So study my gaze, keep
my eyes upon Your face. Fill my heart
with Your desires, revealing in me all that You are. Come live. Come move. Come breathe. Come and be Yourself,
come and be Yourself. Come live. Come move. Come breathe. Won’t You be Yourself,
won’t You be Yourself in me. (Music) Take all I am and
all that I have. I will gladly
pay the cost. Use me up for Your
purposes and plans. Nothing wasted,
nothing lost. So study my gaze, keep
my eyes upon Your face. Fill my heart
with Your desires, revealing in me
all that You are. Come live. Come move. Come breathe. Come and be Yourself,
come and be Yourself. Come live. Come move. Come breathe. Won’t You be Yourself,
won’t You be Yourself in me. Touch through my hands
and heal the broken. See through my eyes
the battle won. Move through my heart
with Your compassion. Changing the
world one by one. Come live. Come move. Come breathe. Come and be Yourself,
come and be Yourself. Come live. Come move. Come breathe. Come and be Yourself,
come and be Yourself. Come live. Come move. Come breathe. Won’t You be Yourself,
won’t You be Yourself. Come live. Come move. Come breathe. Won’t You be Yourself,
won’t You be Yourself in me. (Applauding). Thank you. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. (music) I want to play the
strings of Your heart God. Come play the
strings of mine. I want to sing straight
to Your heart God. Come sing
straight to mine. You have my heart. Lord you have my heart. You have my heart and I
am searching for Yours. Lord you have my thoughts. Oh Lord you have
my thoughts. Oh Lord you have my
thoughts and I am searching for Yours. (music) Lord you have my song. Oh Lord you have my song. Oh Lord you have my song
and I am searching for Yours. I’m so in love with You. I’m so in love with You. I’m so in love
with You Jesus. I’m so in love with You. I’m so in love with You. I’m so in love
with You Jesus. (music) I want to play the strings
of your heart, God, come play the
strings of mine. I want to sing straight
to your heart, God, come sing
straight to mine. (Applauding). I need this to sing into. That song was a
very personal song. I want to play the
strings of your heart, won’t you come and play
the strings of mine and that’s getting up close
and personal with the Lord. Some people don’t
like that idea. They think that may be
just hanging out in church on Sunday morning, that’s
pretty safe because you can always go home. What happens when
God starts to speak, when he does the talking? Whoa, that can get scary. We like to be in control
of our world, don’t we? We don’t like change. I don’t like surprises. But there are times when
the world may get a little out of control. Even for us. And that’s when many of us
begin to reach out for the Lord and push past those
boundary lines of fear and say God, I need help, this
is beyond what I can do. And that’s what happened
to me a few years ago. I am a mother of four
children and my oldest son became addicted to drugs
when he was only 12 years old, if you can
believe that. Came home with marijuana
on the school bus one day. He didn’t even know what
it was, I don’t think, or what to do with it. But he soon found out. Within a very short
space of time, he became addicted to
crystal meth and cocaine. If he couldn’t get illegal
drugs he would steal cough medicine or
cold medication. He was in a lot of pain
and he was looking to the wrong things to
deal with his pain. So he was in trouble and
the world couldn’t help and even I couldn’t help
and so I turned to the Lord in prayer and I
prayed for him for one year, two years, three
years, four years, five years and absolutely
nothing seemed to happen in the natural. He overdosed a
couple times. His heart stopped. Some of my friends and
family told me to leave him in the dust. He was a hopeless case. The police told me that he
had 1% chance of getting free. That typically kids that
became so addicted to meth at a young age
just don’t recover. They end up dead
or in prison. So I was desperate for an
answer and I was desperate for help. My world was
out of control. I continue to pray and
in that fifth year I said Lord, I prayed for five
years and nothing is happening and I know it’s
your will for my son to be free. What do I do? And he said, you don’t
give up and he led me to a Scripture that talks about
praying and fasting which is what Jesus said to do
in extreme situations and how many of you know
this was extreme. So I thought okay. So I decided to
pray and fast. I told my friends what I
was going to do and three, I’m sorry, four of my
friends stood with me and decided to pray and fast. Five people praying and
fasting for five days after five
years of prayer, and nothing happened
that we could see. But on the sixth morning
after that five-day prayer and fasting vigil, my son
who had gone to bed high on cocaine woke me up
on that sixth morning, February 12, 2005. I tell you the date
because I want you to know this really happened. February 12, 2005 he woke
me up and he said mom, something happened in
the middle of the night. He said I saw
Jesus last night. He appeared in the room. I don’t know whether that
was in a physical sense or in a dream. I don’t know. But what I can tell you is
that my son went to bed a drug addict and
he woke up free. (Applauding). And then next week
he cut his hair, changed his clothes,
threw his cigarettes away, threw the drugs away and
went to the church and asked for Bibles. He went to the local
shopping mall looking for drug addicts to tell them
what the power of God had done in his life. So this next song is
called Everything Can Change and as I sing to
you and you hear that story, perhaps you have
a situation in your life where you could use a
little bit of godly help. Is there a situation in
your life tonight that fills a little
out of control? And the Bible says all we
have to do is call upon his name and ask him to
come into that situation and he will. This is Everything
Can Change. (music) If I call upon your name,
if I call upon Jesus, if I call upon your name,
everything can change. Everything can change. Cause you turn darkness
to light, water to wine, blindness to sight. Come change this
heart of mine. Darkness to light,
water to wine, blindness to sight, come
heal this heart of mine. When I call
upon your name, when I call upon Jesus,
when I call upon your name everything can change. Everything can change. Cause you turn darkness
to light, water to wine, blindness to sight. Come change this
heart of mine. Darkness to light,
water to wine, blindness to sight, come
heal this heart of mine. Lord I call
upon your name. Lord I call upon Jesus. Everything can change. (Applauding). (Music playing). (Music playing). (Applauding). (music) I danced in the morning
when the world was begun. I danced at the moon and
the stars and the sun. I came down from heaven
and I danced on the earth. At Bethlehem I
had my birth. Dance, dance,
wherever you may be. I am the Lord of
the dance, said He. And I’ll lead you all
wherever you may be and I’ll lead you all in
the dance, said He. (Violin solo). I danced with the
scribe and the Pharisee, but they would not dance,
no they would not follow me. I danced for
the fisherman, for James and John. They came with me and
the dance went on. Dance, dance
wherever you may be. I am the Lord of
the dance, said He. I’ll lead you all wherever
you may be and I’ll lead you all in the
dance, said He. (Violin solo). I danced on the Sabbath
and I cured the lame. The holy people
said it was a shame. They whipped and they
stripped and they hung me high and they left me
there on a cross to die. Dance, dance
wherever you may be. I am the Lord of
the dance, said He. And I’ll lead you all
wherever you may be and I’ll lead you all in
the dance, said he. (Violin solo). I danced on a Friday when
the sky turned black. It’s hard to dance with
the devil on your back. They buried my body and
they thought I’d gone but I am the dance
and I still go on. They cut me down
and I leap up high. I am the life that
will never, never die. I live in you if you live
in me because I am the Lord of the
dance, said He. Dance, dance
wherever you may be. I am the Lord of
the dance, said He. And I’ll lead you all
wherever you may be and I’ll lead you all in
the dance, said he. Dance, dance
wherever you may be. I am the Lord of
the dance, said He. And I’ll lead you all
wherever you may be and I’ll lead you all in
the dance, said he. (Violin solo). (Applauding). (music) I am the question and
you are the answer. I am the lyrics with
words like dancers. Needs you the melody to
give life to my song. Oh. I am a boat on the sea all alone. You are the Northstar
guiding me home. I’m the Explorer and you
are the treasure I seek. And how can I
dare to believe, awake from this dream to
see, impossibly beautiful, you walk beside me. And all that I see in you,
I just want to be with you. Impossibly beautiful,
but beautifully true. (Violin solo). I am a Japanese
house made of paper. You like a hurricane
laid me to waste. Here in my brokenness
everything changes but you. And how can I
dare to believe, awake from this dream to
see, impossibly beautiful, you walk beside me. And all that I see in you,
I just want to be with you. Impossibly beautiful,
but beautifully true. (Violin solo). And how can I
dare to believe, awake from this dream to
see, impossibly beautiful, you walk beside me. And all that I see in you,
I just want to be with you. Impossibly beautiful,
but beautifully true. (Violent solo). (Applauding). Oh, I did it again. I did it again. Thank you. That’s my favorite
song on my new album, Steady My Gaze. That song is called
Impossibly Beautiful and I wish I could say
that I wrote it. I didn’t write it. I heard it on a CD that an
Irish friend gave to me. It was recorded by an
English group called Note For Child and that group
no longer exists but I thought, oh my goodness,
that’s an incredible song that needs to be
recorded again. So I was very privileged
to sing it again and add some violin to it. So here’s another song
from the new project and again this one came out
of the time of personal devotion. This is called Overcome. Awake me with the dawn. Come and woo me with a
song of how you love me, how you adore me. Let me catch the scent
of your holy fragrance. How I love you,
how I adore you. You have become
my only need. Your presence alone
is what I seek. I’m overcome. Your love is
greater than me. I’m overcome. Under your
grace I can see. I’m overcome. Overcome. Wrapped up in your arms
I am safe from fear and harm. How you love me,
how you adore me. Resting by your throne,
covered by your grace alone. How I love you,
how I adore you. You have become
my only need. Your presence alone
is what I seek. I’m overcome. Your love is
greater than me. I’m overcome. Under your
grace I can see. I’m overcome. Overcome. One glimpse of your face,
you’re stealing my heart away. One touch from your hand,
you take my breath away. I’m overcome. Your love is
greater than me. I’m overcome. Under your
grace I can see. I’m overcome. Your love is
greater than me. I’m overcome. Overcome. I’m overcome. Overcome. (Applauding). Thank you so much. Well going from the sacred
and the holy to the not so sacred. This song pretty much
has no spiritual value whatsoever but it’s just
fun and I want to play it. Is that okay? Okay. (Violin solo). (Applauding). (Music playing). (Music playing). (Applauding). Oh. Be thou my vision
oh Lord of my heart. Naught be all else to
me, save that thou art. Thou my best thought,
by day or by night. Waking or sleeping,
thy presence my light. Oh. Oh. Oh. Be thou my wisdom,
and thou my true word. I ever with thee and
thou with me, Lord. Thou my great Father,
I thy true son. Thou in me dwelling
and I with thee. Sing it. Oh Lord, Oh Lord be my
vision, be my vision. Oh light, oh light, be
my guide, be my guide. Oh shine, oh shine
in the darkness. Be thou my vision
oh Savior of mine. Oh. Oh. Oh. Riches I heed not, nor
man’s empty praise. Thou mine inheritance,
now and always. Thou and thou only
first in my hearts. High King of heaven,
my treasure thou art. Oh Lord, O Lord be my
vision, be my vision. Oh light, oh light be
my guide, be my guide. Oh shine, oh shine
in the darkness. Be thou my vision
oh Savior of mine. Oh. Oh. Oh. High King of heaven,
my victory won. May I reach heaven’s joys,
oh bright heavens sun. Heart of my own heart,
whatever befall. Still be my vision,
oh ruler of all. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. (Applauding). Thank you. Well did you hear a little
Irish flair and that song? That was called
an uilleann pipe, the real thing, we
didn’t use electronics. You may have figured out
by now that I have a love for Irish music and there
is always a little bit of a Celtic twist
in my songs. And that started when
I was a little girl. I am not Irish. I wish I was but I’m
actually of German descent. But God just placed a love
for the Irish people and all things Celtic in my
heart when I was a little girl. And I even drew a picture
of Ireland when I was in ninth grade that I
still have to this day. I never dreamed that those
desires and fascinations that he gave me as a child
for Ireland was one day going to turn into a
ministry in Ireland. In fact a radio ministry. So I went to Ireland
for the first time and I thought well, maybe I
better learn to speak their language if I’m
going to be speaking about the love of God
to this culture, I better learn
something about them. And so I’m a classically
trained violinist but I lowered myself to the
level of fiddling and I learned how to play
one Irish fiddle song. And so this is called,
Quilles Real or She’s Too Poor to Afford a Band. (Violent solo). (Applauding). Isn’t that fun? I love fiddling because
it’s my new favorite thing to do. (piano playing) I gave you my heart
and I gave you my life, gave you my
desires long ago. Laid them down at the
foot of your throne. But there are dreams
inside that refuse to die, dreams as wide as
the Michigan sky. I want Christ to walk
the earth through me. I want to fulfill
my destiny. Cause you’re
my dream maker. The dreams inside my heart
were in your mind right from the start. There is nothing I desire
to do that was not thought of first by you. All for your glory. All for your glory. You make my
dreams come true. Cause yours is the kingdom
and yours is the power and yours is the
glory forever. Yours is the kingdom and
yours is the power and yours is the
glory forever. You are my dream maker. The dreams inside my heart
or in your mind right from the start. There is nothing I desire
to do that was not thought of first by you. All for your glory. All for your glory. You make my
dreams come true. You make my
dreams come true. You make my
dreams come true. (Applauding). Well we serve a God whose
all about dreams and I truly believe that that’s
what separates us I think from the animal kingdom
is the Lord gives us the breath of his spirit. We get to walk with him
and talk with him and I think he puts some of his
desires into our hearts. Don’t you believe that? So that desire I had as
a child to go to Ireland, I didn’t make that up. Where did that come from? It had no natural reason
for being there except the Lord had a purpose for it
because he knew what he created me to
do on the earth. Part of it had to do with
that part of the world so he trained me up as a
musician from a young age, learned to play
the violin, later learned to sing. And then I got married
when I was a music school and raised a family and my
focus changed from music and Ireland to raising
children, being a wife, mother. And that was a
glorious thing, a glorious time
in my life. There was always a part of
my heart that was a little bit sad whenever I would
think about Ireland wondering if I would
ever get to go there, thinking about music,
wondering if I would ever get to use music again. And unfortunately the road
to my dream was not an easy one. It was a difficult one. The marriage ended in
divorce after 16 years and I found myself living far
from home in the Midwest and raising the children. I was really
struggling financially, emotionally and
spiritually. And at the lowest point in
my life I cried out to the Lord and asked him to put
me back on the road is not my dreams, but his dreams. Do you want to
know what happened? Within three years I was
recording, I was singing, I was playing and I would
say within five years I was in Ireland fulfilling
the dreams that the Lord had had for me
from the beginning. Isn’t that amazing? And this is the part that
I want to leave you with tonight as I go
into my last song, I just want to encourage
you that the suffering that you go through in
this life and I say that you go through because all
of us will suffer in this world, that’s what
the Bible says, but we don’t have to
be afraid of suffering because when we put those
difficulties and trials in God’s hands, they become
the very things that he will use to bring you to
the land of your dreams. Isn’t that amazing? So we don’t have to be
hopeless in this world, we have hope in
Jesus Christ. That’s the meaning of the
word grace is when God comes down into our
world and brings us his. Isn’t that right? So I want to just close
with some songs that you know and you can sing
along and I also want to just thank the listening
audience who’s in the living room by
television tonight. I hope you have
been blessed. I hope you’ve been drawn
closer to the Lord and I hope maybe there’s a
little bit of hope in your heart tonight. When I am down and
oh my soul so weary. When troubles come and
my heart burdened be. Then I am still and wait
here in the silence until you come and sit
awhile with me. You raise me up so I
can stand on mountains. You raise me up to
walk on stormy seas. I am strong when I
am on your shoulders. You raise me up to
more than I can be. You raise me up to
more than I can be. Amazing Grace, will
you sing with me, how sweet the sound that
saved a wretch like me. I once was lost
but now am found, was blind but now I see. When we’ve been there. When we’ve been
there 10,000 years, bright shining as the sun. We’ve no less days to sing
God’s praise then when we first begun. We’ve no less days. We’ve no less days to sing
God’s praise then when we first begun. (Applauding). Thank you so much. God bless.
